Persistent coughing and sneezing can be a real nuisance and can leave you or your children without sleep and energy during the day. Coughs can wake you up overnight and ruin your morning, which is why everyone is looking to get rid of them one way or the other.
Coughs are usually treated with cough syrup in most parts of the world. The syrup does work, but it does so at the expense of our health. This drug contains a variety of chemicals which can significantly harm your health, and its prolonged use can cause quite a lot of side-effects which can strain your immune system too much. Luckily, there’s a natural remedy that can help, and includes the use of two common ingredients we all have in our kitchen – honey and ginger.
The ginger-honey wraps are ideal for alleviating coughs and sneezes. They will reinforce your immune system and treat colds and similar infections, and are even great for children. Here’s how to prepare them:
A tablespoon of ginger powder (or grated ginger)
Mix the flour and honey well, then add the olive oil and grated ginger and mix well again. Put the paste on a napkin and wrap it in gauze, then apply it on your or your child’s chest and stick with adhesive tape. Leave the mixture to work 3 hours before going to bed or overnight, then remove it in the morning and rinse with lukewarm water.
The remedy doesn’t have any side-effects other than skin irritation due to the powerful effects of ginger. In this case, put a bit more honey and use the wrap as instructed. The wrap works great and will get you some much-needed relief from coughing and sneezing.
