The statins are drugs for patients with high bad cholesterol since they lower the bad effects and reduce all heart risks.
Lately these statins are under fire from a study that said they are harmful. Many people take drugs like Crestor, Zocor and Lipitor and in USA drugs of this kind rose more to $374 billion per year for 2014, more even than 2001. Statins are a huge spend and those getting these drugs have to worry more over their health.
The American Journal of Physiology made a study where it was said statins impact every biological process in stem cells with adverse effects. The study stated that such effects are advancing the aging process and long term use of them can cause myopathy, neurological issues and diabetes risks. Myopathy is skeletal and muscle weakness.
Statins make the cells unable to repair well, make nerve problems and kill memory
Here experts advise to avoid statins and this was just recently. Those who take these drugs have fatigue, muscle pain, cataracts, liver damage and memory loss. Also these drugs mess with cells and block the body somehow. Prof. Reza Izadpanah, stem cell biology expert and author of the study said statins speed up aging. Those who take them must think twice since it might have bad effect on the body and make more muscle pains, joint and nerve issues too.
Despite all health issues to statins, FDA said we must not be scared.
While the FDA expresses on the site that brain damage like memory loss and confusion might be seen, still people who get statins might get risk of high blood sugar and diabetes 2, but in general statins are safe.
The site makes people pay attention to advices by Amy G. Egan, MD, MPH, director for safety at FDA’s Division of Metabolism and Endocrinology products DMEP. She said this new info will scare people for the statins. The benefit is fine but they have to be taken with caution.
This is not hard to dispute. But what is amazing about being aged early, having weak muscles, memory loss and bad cells?
The need to assess prescribed drugs and studies that tout the benefits…
All findings opened the importance of the benefits of prescribed drugs, which is something we all have to see or be well informed at least. A similar study opened up many eyes and mentioned the adolescent Paxil antidepressant which even got headlines and another analysis from original study that was incomplete and exposed all errors. This drug was not found to be safe. Nosek Brian, prof. of psychology at Virginia University said people are waking up and seeing what science must do – correct itself!
