Almost everyone loves marshmallows. They are combined with hot cocoa, family trips while camping, Thanksgiving etc. They don’t contain fat, but they contain plenty of sugar.
There are 4 grams of added sugar in 1 marshmallow. We all know that we can’t just eat 1 of them. One of the tastiest recipes with hot cocoa or hot chocolate contains several marshmallows of about 29 grams of added sugar! That’s too much!

Healthy Marshmallow Recipe
Here, we’re presenting you a recipe for homemade marshmallows that are very healthy since they contain honey! You can also make them in a chocolate or coconut version. You’ll forget about the ones you buy at the store!
- ½ a cup of cold water
- 1 and ½ of a tablespoon of gelatin
- 1/8 of a teaspoon of salt
- ½ a cup of honey
- ½ a teaspoon of vanilla extract
First, take a loaf pan and grease it a bit. Cover it with baking paper and put some grease o the paper, too.
Set aside a separate bowl with ¼ of a cup of water Put the gelatin inside and leave it to soften.
Put ¼ of a cup of water, honey and salt in another bowl. Heat it. Make sure the mixture reaches 240 degrees. When the liquid is cooled in the water, it should create small soft balls. Then, remove it from the heat.
Turn on a hand mixer on low. Pour the hot syrup in the mixture with the gelatin. When it’s uniform, put the vanilla. Increase to high speed. Beat the whole mixture for 15 minutes. It should be fluffy and thick, similar to marshmallows. Put it on the pan you greased and leave it to dry from 4 to 12 hours uncovered. Then, cut it. That’s it! Eat your tasty and healthy marshmallow!
Coconut Version: Use ½ a cup of unsweetened coconut flakes and toast them. Put them on the bottom of your pan. When you add the marshmallow mixture over them, sprinkle some more of them on the top.
Cocoa Version: The prepared marshmallows should be rolled in the cocoa powder.
