It’s a new kind of danger present in the form of cell phones, tablets, iPads etc. Parents usually use these to calm their kids down and have some rest. They want to focus their attention on something inside the electronic device which is a very bad thing because of numerous reasons.
The renowned psychologist has published a book called “Toxic Childhood” where she warns that when children use these devices a lot of time, it starts to affect their mental and even physical health. Unfortunately, we can all see that she’s right and it’s true. More and more children are using these electronic devices.
Usually, children spend over 6 hours in front of these. They can watch TV and play a game at the same time. More and more children are starting to have problems with their attention as well as hyperactivity which only causes doctors to prescribe them more medicines.
A particular study on this proved that about 10% of children who were younger than 4 fell asleep with a tablet in their hands. According to another similar research, 1/3 of children younger than 3 had tablets bought only for them. It becomes very hard for children to live without these electronic devices. If you introduce them to them very early, you’ll have a very big problem.
These large screens catch children’s attention for a very long period of time. The children don’t have the desire to go and play with other children e.g. to socialize. This has a negative effect on their communication skills and teamwork. They become very lonely, passive and selfish. If you’re a parent, try to do everything you can so that you stop your children using these electronic devices. Make sure that your children will have plenty of time to play with other children and socialize.
When children socialize and play with other children, they have a great physical benefit and become stronger. At the same time, they also become much healthier. They develop more empathy, have more skills to solve problems etc. These terrible screens and electronic gadgets only inhibit children’s mind as well as body. They are distracted constantly.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, children under 2 years of age shouldn’t be allowed to spend time on these screens. After that, they shouldn’t spend more than 2 hours. All parents must try to limit their children’s exposure to these devices. They should make their children spend more quality time in the real world.
Our society has made a great progress with these devices, but still, when it comes to the health of our children we should be more aware of what we let them do. Their creative thinking, self-confidence and social skills shouldn’t be disturbed with anything.
