We all know that caffeine is beneficial for our body and mind especially in the morning. Most of us drink a cup of coffee or two in the morning in order to “wake up” and start functioning, but caffeine can become pretty dangerous when added to energy drinks, cocktails or in other combinations. In this case, caffeine becomes a death threat and can wreak havoc in your cardiovascular system.
Sadly, many people drink energy drinks like water, even when some of the most popular brands such as Red Bull have been accused of killing people. Recently, a 33-year old father from Brooklyn died of a heart attack because of his energy drink addiction.
How do energy drinks cause a heart attack?
According to a study by the Mayo Clinic, when you drink Red Bull or other energy drinks, they raise your heart rate and blood pressure, which has a negative effect on your cardiovascular health. The study involved 15 healthy people who drank 500 ml. Red Bull every day for a week – at the end of the study, their blood pressure was up by 10%, while their heart rate was increased by 11%. At the same time, their risk of stroke and heart attack went through the roof.

Red Bull (and most energy drinks for that matter) contain caffeine, stimulants, vitamins from the B group as well as taurine. The combination of these ingredients is deadly and can increase the risk of the aforementioned problems. One study showed that drinking energy drinks regularly can increase the amount of blood being pumped in and out of the heart, which can wreak havoc in your cardiovascular system.
