These days we struggle to reach all standards for fashion and perfection. We hate every blemish we see, every wrinkle, we adore photoshop and deal with fuzzy, curly, thin hair and what not!
But, Dove made a campaign with real body figures and real women looks and they all talk of their flaws and how they love their natural beauty.
So, we would buy items of this kind rather than perfectionist ones. But, we expect the first kind to be all natural and healthy, but it is not! It is just chemicals.
The Dove brand started working in 1957 when Lever Brothers made the one and only beauty bar. The ad said their items were better for the skin than regular soaps and had ¼ cleansing cream.
Ever since, their logo had the bird we see today too. The models are all girly, curvy with red lips. The women are real in the 60s ads and all testified in front of a “hidden” camera about the benefits of this soap.
After 20 years, the company promoted more inner beauty and they focused on the girl Jean Shy, who reacts to a compliment about her skin after Dove use.
In 1991, the Litmus tests were made and the soap was said to be low alkaline. Dove is mild they said. They made lotions, shampoos, deodorants, face and hand care and cleansers too.
In 2004, they made the campaign for real beauty.
In 2005, the Dove Self-Esteem fund was fighting eating disorders and they made videos of unrealistic beauty of the media, as well as press pressure for undermining girls.
These days, this is the main brand in the world and has sales over $2.5 billion per year in USA and also 80 other countries.
