Everyone has some kind of parenting advice – from your mother to your friends, everyone has an opinion about how you need to raise your children. However, this can be justified only by parents, so couples without kids shouldn’t really have a say in it.
There are many controversial topics when talking about raising your child properly. It there a right or bad way to raise them, what they should eat, how much should they sleep, and even who they should sleep with. In general, babies sleep with their mother, and now a famous pediatrician has provided proof that it needs to be like that because of their hearts. Dr. Nils Bergman from the Cape Town University in South Africa recently said not sleeping together harms the mother-child bond, which could have a negative effect on their developing heart and brain. It may be bad news for dads, but children should sleep with their mother if you want to see them healthy.
Another pediatrician, Dr. James McKenna from the University of Notre Dame and a well-known author on books about raising children recently discovered that the countries where children sleep with their moms had lower mortality rates than the others, which aligns with Dr. Bergman’s claims. However, it’s very important to also account factors such as if the mother and child are sleeping in the same or separate beds. The combination of stress and lack of sleep in babies has been related to teenage years behavioral problems in children. Not sleeping together with their mother can also affect the production of stress hormones in the child and make it harder for them to form relationships later in life.
Regardless of what you might think of it, Dr. McKenna and Dr. Bergman’s opinions should be taken into account. Find their articles online and you can make a decision on your own.
