Ice-cream may be the most popular dessert in the world, but waffles are just as good or even better. Although they are delicious, waffles are quite heavy – many restaurants use Bisquick to prepare their waffles, which is a big problem. Of course, they taste amazing, but we’re paying too steep a price. When unhealthy desserts became a routine, you should be legitimately worried for your health. So, is there a solution? Luckily, there is.
The waffles we have for you today can be easily made at home – they require nothing more than a waffle iron. If you don’t have one, it’s time to get it – waffle irons are pretty cheap and easy to find and will help you make the perfect dessert for your guests and yourself as well. The waffle we’re preparing is vegan and contains gluten, so it’s not suitable for the gluten intolerant. It is based on apples and cinnamon – two great natural ingredients which not only taste delicious, but will also help you lose weight.
If you’re into waffles, you’ll definitely love this version! Here’s what you need to do:
- ¾ of a cup of fresh apples (sliced) + some extra for garnish
- 1 ½ cup of pastry flour
- 1 ½ tablespoon of ground flaxseeds
- ¼ teaspoon of salt
- ¼ cup of oats
- 2 teaspoons of baking powder
- 1 teaspoon of powdered cinnamon
- 1/3 cup of mashed bananas
- ½ a teaspoon of vanilla extract
- ¼ cup of apple sauce (no sugar)
- 2 tablespoons of coconut oil
- 1 ¼ cup of almond or coconut milk
- 1-2 tablespoons of maple syrup
Mix the dry ingredients in a bowl first, then mix the wet (including the apples) in another. Now, add the dry mixture to the wet one bit by bit and mix until you get a smooth texture. Now, add finely slices apple pieces and leave the batter for 5 minutes.
In the meantime, warm up the waffle iron and spray it with non-stick cooking spray once ready. Pour the proper amount of batter next, then close the iron and cook them to your preference. Bon appetite!
