The sciatic nerve is the longest nerve in our body. It starts in the spine and goes down to the buttocks and ends in the feet, and plays a vital role in numerous movements. When inflamed or somehow irritated, the sciatic nerve can become quite painful and will definitely interfere with your daily activities (a condition called sciatica).
Causes of sciatica
The pain caused by sciatica intensifies after prolonged periods of standing or sitting down, heavy lifting or if you work a job that puts too much pressure on the nerve. Improper body posture and wearing inappropriate footwear can also make the pain worse. In general, sciatica is treated with painkillers, but there are many simple exercises and remedies which can relieve the symptoms and eliminate the pain.
