It is very important for our health to know in which pose we sleep. Some people might find this strange, but it really affects our neck and back directly and if they’re not in the right position, premature wrinkles can appear, but also various stomach problems.
Here, we’re presenting you some of the best sleeping positions as well as how you can avoid the positions that have a negative effect on our body.
BEST: SLEEPING ON THE BACK
This position is thought to be the neutral one, because it stimulates your neck, spine and back. It also keeps your head above your stomach and decreases acid reflux. It can even minimize your wrinkles, just because nothing comes into contact with your face. The only negative thing is snoring. Make sure you find your perfect pillow from the puffy ones, so you won’t prop your head too much and you’ll also support your neck!
OK: SLEEPING ON THE SIDE
You might have negative effects on your breasts and face because of this position. You just mush your face from one side to another and your breasts become sagging. You must have a proper pillow and it should be thick. It should be OK to fill the empty space you have above your shoulder. This will also make sure that your head is in a natural position. People who have snoring problems should also benefit from this position, because it elongates your spine and that reduces the snoring significantly. This is also extremely beneficial for reducing acid reflux because it makes sure your head is elevated above your stomach. It’s also very useful during pregnancy.
Note: If you sleep on one side, you’d better sleep on the left one. In this way you support your digestive system, so it starts digesting food easier during your sleeping time.
BAD: FETAL POSITION
During this position we curve our back and that’s not good. It can cause the appearance of arthritic pain since our knees are not in a natural position throughout the night. It’s also not a normal position for your spine and neck. The breathing through your diaphragm is decreased and you can get premature facial wrinkles. It’s only useful and good during the period of pregnancy.
AVOID: SLEEPING ON THE STOMACH
This is a position which has a direct effect on the neutral spine position. It also puts a burden and pressure on your muscles and joints. That can cause a certain irritation to your nerves and lead to great pain, tingling and numbness. Headaches can also appear because of sleeping on the stomach. You keep your airways opened more when your face is down.
